Genevieve Della (McClure) Edwards

Genevieve Della McClure Edwards, 80 of Hamden died Monday, July 15, 2019 at Yale-New Haven Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Kennies Earl Edwards. Genevieve was born in New Haven on March 10, 1939, a daughter of the late Samuel Arthur and Coretta Isabelle Warfield McClure and was a lifelong New Haven area resident. She was baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, and received the Holy Spirit in 1952. Genevieve graduated from James Hillhouse High School in 1957. She was employed at Deitch Sewing Machine Co from 1957 to 1959 as a bookkeeper, and also worked at SNET CO for six years. In 1997 Genevieve retired from the City of New Haven, Board of Education as a cook at Sheriden Middle School. Being inspired by Mrs. Elsie Hagans and her late husband Mr. Joseph Hagans, Genevieve founded C & G Travelers, New Haven in April of 1986 until October 2018, helping many people with affordable prices to travel throughout the U.S.A., Canada and Mexico, including two motor coach trips to Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska. She leaves to mourn, one daughter, Granata (Duncan) Smith of New Haven, one step-son, Kennies Shaw, two grandsons, Robert M. Brown, Jr. of Charlotte, NC and Kennies E. Brown of New Haven, one sister Madrue Tompkins of East Haven, a sister-in law, Francine McClure of New Haven, four great-grandchildren, and a host of godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Demetria Nelson, and a brother, Douglas P. McClure. Genevieve's family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, July 21st from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Beulah Height First Pentecostal Church, 782 Orchard St., New Haven. A funeral service will begin at 7:00 p.m. A committal service will take place Monday, July 22nd at 9:00 a.m. in Beaverdale Memorial Park, New Haven.
