Gaetano Thomas Gagliardi, 95, of New Haven, CT died suddenly at his home on Thursday, September 7, 2023. He was the husband to the late Trofimina “Mamie” Farace Gagliardi for over seventy years. Tom was born in New Haven on August 6, 1928, a son of the late Mario and Louise Antinora Gagliardi, and was a lifelong New Haven resident. He was a manufacturing engineer for the former Norden Systems of Norwalk for many years. Tom was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Rodrigo Council #44 and past Grand Knight, the Sons and Daughters of Italy, and American Legion Post 574 of East Haven. He was a proud WWII US Navy Veteran of the European Theatre. Tom is survived by three daughters, Louise (Nicholas Murano) of Branford, Marla (Frank Andrews) DeMusis of Clinton and Julia (David Lavado) of Wallingford, two sisters; his twin Jessie Panagrosso of Branford and Mary Panagrosso of New Haven, eight grandchildren Angelo (Stephanie) Murano, Annette Murano, Michael DeMusis, Anthony (Autumn) DeMusis, Max DeMusis, Robert (Sara) Lavado, Stephanie (Kevin) Lavado-Berghorn and Todd Andrews, six great-grandchidren Ella, Cora and Carter Lavado, Freyja and Raffaele DeMusis and Victoria Murano, and his former son-in-law Bill DeMusis of Branford. He was predeceased by his great-grandson Matteo DeMusis. The Gagliardi family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Tom’s longtime aids Marlene and Jenny for the loving and dedicated care given to him over the past year. Tom’s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, September 14th from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. His funeral cortege will depart the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. in St. Bernadette Church (St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish), 385 Townsend Ave., New Haven. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery, West Haven.
