Evelyn M. Colón, 69 of Hamden, formerly of New Haven died peacefully on Wednesday, August 18, 2021 at Yale-New Haven Hospital with her loving family by her side. Evelyn was born in New York City on November 4,1951, a daughter of Reverend Juan Martínez of West Haven and the late Persida Sein Martínez. She resided in New Haven for most of her life before moving to Hamden three years ago. Evelyn received her bachelor's degree from the University of Bridgeport, and went on to work as Assistant Bank Manager at Bank of America for seventeen years until 1989. She was the Director of the Children's Program at Door of Salvation Christian Church of New Haven for many years, right up until the time of her illness, and had been a Supervisor and Site Coordinator for the Vita Tax Program at New Life Corporation of New Haven. In addition to her father Reverend Juan Martínez and his wife Maria Martínez, Evelyn is survived by her son, Jonathan Colón and his wife Amy of Hamden, a daughter, Priscilla Montalvo and her husband José DeJesús of New Haven, a sister, Persida S. Martínez of New Haven, two brothers, Reverend Ariel Martínez and his wife Luz Virgina of West Haven and Joseph Martínez and his wife Patricia of North Haven, one niece, Alexandra Martínez of North Haven, one nephew Elías Martínez of West Haven, three step-grandchildren, Leanna and Cheyenne Frazier, and Charles William Frazier, III of Hamden, and a host of loving relatives and friends. She was predeceased by two brothers, Isaias Martínez and John S. Martínez. Evelyn's family will receive guests on Tuesday, August 24th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Door of Salvation Christian Church (Iglesia Cristiana Puerta de Salvación), 3 Arch St., New Haven. A funeral service will begin at 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will take place at the church on Wednesday, August 25th at 10:00 a.m., immediately followed by a committal service at Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven.
