Eugene Michael Hughes

Eugene Michael Hughes, 60, of Vera Cruz, Mexico, formerly of New Haven died suddenly in East Haven on Saturday, June 25, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Claudia López Licona Hughes. Eugene was born in New Haven on November 11, 1961, a son of the late Edward and Geraldine Reagan Hughes, and had resided in New Haven for most of his life before moving to Vera Cruz ten years ago. He was a paramedic with AMR for twenty years, retiring in 2000. He is also survived by three daughters, Trista and Jessica Hughes of New Haven and Sanya Hughes of East Haven, two sons, Shaun Anthony (Jamie) Ennes of Branford and Brian Michael Hughes of New Haven, one step-daughter, Lorelei Fonseca López and one step-son Mauricio Fonseca López of Vera Cruz, one sister, Katheleen Hughes of Wallingford, three brothers, Edward and Kevin (Cindy) Hughes of Branford and Gerald Hughes of East Haven, his former wife Shirley Hughes of Branford, twelve grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by a son, Eugene Michael Hughes, Jr. Eugene's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, July 1st from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. His funeral procession will leave from the funeral home on Saturday, July 2nd at 9:15 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 10:00 in St. Mary Church (St. Mary Parish), 5 Hillhouse Ave., New Haven.
