Enio Abel Santiago, 77, of New Haven, CT died peacefully on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at Yale-New Haven Hospital, St. Raphael Campus with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Migdalia (Rodríguez) Santiago.
Enio was born in Adjunats, Puerto Rico on May 30, 1948, a son of the late Domingo and Rosalina (Estremera) Santiago and had resided in New Haven since 1998. He was a proud US Army Veteran, having served as a Medical Specialist, and was a public school custodian with the City of New Haven for twenty five years, retiring in 2017. Enio was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. He was a simple man who loved to read history books, play dominos and shoot pool. He was a gifted carpenter who had the skills to build an entire house, and used his skills to help family members and people in his community. Enio was eager to teach anyone willing to learn his craft. He had many positive qualities, but will be remembered most for his bravery, strength, honesty and for being a great man.
In addition to his beloved wife Migdalia, Enio is survived by three daughters, Ileana (Eric) Rivera of Danbury, Widnelia (Stephen) Matoes of Morris and Xiomara (Giovanni) Nieves of Meriden, one son, Enio Abel Santiago, Jr. of New Haven, four sisters, Carmen Santiago, Judith Santiago, Magda (Edwin) Báez and Ana (Wilson) Sein all of New Haven, five brothers, Fernando Santiago of Philadelphia, PA, Benjamin (Marisel) Santiago and Melvin Santiago of New Haven, Geraldo (Minerva) Santiago of Deltona, FL and Abimael (Isabel) Santiago of Boca Raton, FL, six grandchildren, Anaeli and Erica Rivera, Daniela and Isabela Matoes, Aria Psalm Nieves and Ruel Nieves, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by two sisters, Gladys and Luz Neida Santiago, and three brothers, Julio Cesar, Domingo and Eduardo Santiago.
Enio's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, September 26th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Star of Jacob Christian Church (Iglesia Cristiana Estrella de Jacob), 504 Howard Ave., New Haven. A funeral service will be conducted during visitation time. A prayer service will take place at the church on Saturday, September 27th at 9:30 a.m. followed by burial with Military Honors in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven.
