Emilio Montanaro, 91, of Hamden, CT died suddenly at his home on Sunday, February 16, 2025. He was the beloved husband of the late Adua (Fidanza) Montanaro. Emilio was born in the village of Calvisi, Gioia Sannitica, Prov. of Caserta, Italy on February 5, 1934 a son of the late Angelo and Concetta (Raccio) Montanaro and had resided in Hamden for the past sixty three years. He was a tile setter for Local# 1 of Wallingford for forty years, retiring in 1996. Emilio’s biggest joy was being “Nonno” and spending time with each one of his grandchildren which would typically include stuffing them with “Nonna’s” food and encouraging them to drink his homemade wine. In addition, he would carry on his Italian heritage with making wine, sauce and of course curing meats. Overall he was incredibly proud of being an Italian immigrant, and successfully living the American dream.
Emilio is survived by three daughters, Tina (James) Maffucci of Middletown, Amelia (Rob) Alexander of Oak Bluff, MA and Elena Montanaro of Hamden, a son Aldo (Concetta) Montanaro of Middletown, and his six cherished grandchildren, Adrianna and Isabella Maffucci, Gabriella and Massimo Montanaro and Justin and Sofia Alexander. He was predeceased by a sister Onorina Marra and two brothers, Aldo and Ugo Montanaro.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 22nd at 11:00 a.m. in St. Therese Church (St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish), 555 Middletown Ave., North Haven. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven.
