Donald Gene Campbell, Jr.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Gene Campbell Jr., 75, of Hamden, Connecticut who passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on June 21, 1951, in New Jersey, Donald was the beloved son of Donald and Carol Campbell. He grew up in Bergenfield, New Jersey, alongside his four sisters, Donna Clark, Charlene Byrnes, Allyson Saraceno, and Pamela Lombreglia, and his younger brother, Scott Campbell. Later, he made his home in New Haven, Connecticut, where he attended the University of New Haven, formed lifelong friendships, and met the love of his life, Marie.

Donald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He dedicated many years of his life as a letter carrier, taking pride in serving his community. Outside of work, he found his greatest joy on the open road, whether riding his beloved Harley-Davidson, cruising the back country roads, or never missing a chance to wear his signature cowboy boots.

Above all, Donald's greatest love was his family. He is survived by his loving wife of forty six years Marie; his twin daughters, Christina Cordido and her husband Alejandro, and Catherine Cavanaugh and her husband Matthew; and his three cherished grandchildren, Kenna, Harper, and Lennon Cavanaugh, who brought endless pride and happiness to his life. 

He is also lovingly remembered by his sisters, many nieces and nephews, extended family, and countless friends whose lives were made brighter by knowing him.

Donald gave his daughters a childhood filled with adventure, laughter, and unconditional love. Some of their most treasured memories are hiking together through Acadia National Park in Maine, taking spontaneous weekend road trips, and spending endless summer days swimming at Gram and Paga's pool. 

He had a remarkable way of making everyone feel like family. His daughters' closest friends quickly became his own "other daughters," and everyone who crossed his path was welcomed with open arms, a warm smile, and often a special nickname that only he could give.

His kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and unwavering love for those around him will forever be remembered. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in imagining him doing what he loved most, riding free with the wind at his back.

We hope you're riding Harleys again. You belong somewhere you feel free.
