Cruz Méndez, 85 of Bloomfield, formerly of New Haven died peacefully on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at the Bloomfield Center for Health and Rehabilitation. He was the beloved husband of the late Frances Manning Méndez. Cruz was born on Naguabo, Puerto Rico on May 4, 1935, a son of the late Gumercindo Méndez and the late Cecilia Maldonado. He had resided in New Haven since 1958, and Bloomfield for the past year. Cruz was a machinist for the former Spencer & Son Co. of Guilford and H.B. Ives Co. of New Haven for many years, retiring in 2004. He is survived by seven daughters, Lucy Soto, Madeline Silot and Carmen Méndez of Philadelphia, PA, Margie Méndez of Naguabo, Rosa Méndez of Las Piedras, PR, Magda Méndez of Florida and Cristina Méndez of New Haven, one son, Cruzito Méndez of Vineland, NJ, three sisters, Ana Méndez of West Palm Beach, FL, Lily (Daniel) Negron of Kissimmee, FL and Maria Luisa (José) de Jesús of New Haven, four brothers, Victor Méndez, Jesús (Carmen Julia Gerena) Méndez and Abraham (Blanca Velázquez) Méndez of Naguabo, and David (Nellie) Méndez of New Haven, twenty four grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Cruz's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, January 29th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, January 30th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com
