Cesario Báez Obituary

Cesario Báez, 84, of New Haven, Connecticut died peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 22, 2026 with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Celia Pagán. Cesario was born in Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico on October 14, 1941, a son of the late Alberto Báez and the late Josefa Cruz, and had resided in New Haven for the past 30 years. He worked in the Land scaping and Maintenance Department for Town of Bayamón, Puerto Rico for many years, and was a longtime member of Centro Misionero de Restauración Church of New Haven.

In his 84 years of life, Cesario was an excellent husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and he enjoyed spending time with his family. He especially loved being with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In his spare time, he enjoyed playing the guitar, dominoes, planting and cultivating his garden, and fishing. Cesario was very handy and was quite helpful in assisting his family, friends and acquaintances with any projects they had and needed a helping hand with. 

Although in the last years of his life, he was a person who overcame many obstacles like a true warrior. He overcame cancer, the loss of his wife, COVID, and many other obstacles, but always surrounded with the love of his entire family and friends!

Cesario is survived by two daughters, Marta Báez and Carmen (José Cruz) Báez, and a son, Iván Báez, all of New Haven, one sister, Irma Báez of Bayamón, eleven grandchildren, Juan Carlos Marcano, Richard Marcano, Juan Ariel Marcano, Marta María Marcano, Carmen Marcano, Saul Marcano, Tamara Marcano, Luz Marcano, Junior Marcano, José Cruz and Jessica Cruz, twenty one great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by one sister, Ediva Báez and six brothers, Cristobal, Feliciano, Nestalie, Lupe, Enrique and Alfredo Báez.

Cesario's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, March 25th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place during visitation time. A prayer service will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, March 26th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. washingtonmemorialfh.com
