Carmine DeStefanis Obituary

Carmine DeStefanis, 73 of Hamden entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 9, 2021. He was born in Tocco da Casauria in Pescara, Italy in 1948. He had been a Hamden resident for many years. He leaves behind his beloved wife Isabella, his beloved son Vincent and daughter-in-law Ania, and his grandchildren Paolo and Valentina who were the light of his life. He was predeceased by his father Vincenzo Destefanis and his mother Petronilla (DiFrancescantonio) DeStefanis. He also leaves behind his brother Giancarlo DeStefanis, his sister-in-law Maria, his sister Pia (DeStefanis) Eskew, his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Maria and Raffaele Moniello, and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Giovanna and Dr. Paul Acampora. He has many loved cousins in Italy and Connecticut. He received a 2-year degree from South Central Community College, and continued his education towards his bachelor’s degree at Southern Connecticut State University. Carmine was employed by the Ferraro’s Market on Grand Avenue in New Haven for many years where he worked as manager. Carmine loved going to work, making pasta with his grandchildren, completing crossword puzzles, and playing cards and bocce at the Hamden Bocce Club. He was an avid soccer player and enthusiast, beginning his career with youth leagues in Italy, and continuing in the United States with the New Haven Italians Soccer Team in the CT League, where he played well into his 60’s. Mostly he loved spending time with his immediate family and extended family, especially on Sundays and holidays. He was a beloved uncle to all of his niece and nephews, grandnephews and grandniece. He adored traveling back to Italy (his birthplace) to visit family. Carmine’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, April 13th from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. His funeral procession will leave from the funeral home at 11:15 a.m. for Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11:45 a.m. in Christ the Bread of Life Parish (Ascension Church), 1050 Dunbar Hill Rd., Hamden. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. Memorial contributions in Carmine’s name may be made to your favorite charity of to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
