Carmen Ortíz Colón, 61, of New Haven, CT died peacefully at Connecticut Hospice, Branford with her loving family by her side. Carmen was born in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico on September 10, 1961, a daughter of the late Angel Ortíz and the late Manuela Colón. She had resided in Barranquitas for most of her life, moved to Freehold, NJ in 2010 where she lived for three years, and has resided in New Haven for the past ten years. Carmen is survived by four daughters, Erika Ortíz of New Haven, Xiomara Torres of Meriden, Cinthia (Tom Marchitto) Torres of East Haven and Clarimar (Erick Montañez) Mercado of Caguas, Puerto Rico, one son, Ramón Mercado of Havre de Grace, Maryland, four sisters, Rosie Ortíz and Norma (Francisco López) Ortíz of Dorado, Puerto Rico, Sara (Porfirio Berrios) Ortíz of Bayamón, Puerto Rico and Carmen Ortíz of Orocovis, Puerto Rico, a son, Ramón Mercado of Havre de Grace, Maryland, two brothers, Angel Ortíz and José Enrique Ortiz of Barranquitas, thirteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by two brothers, Ramón Ortíz and José Ortíz. Carmen's family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, May 8th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven.
