Carmen López Obituary

Carmen Ana López, 92 of New Haven, CT was called to Heaven to be with her beloved husband, Martín López, Sr., on Sunday, April 28, 2024, just two months after his passing. Carmen was born in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico on March 25, 1932, a daughter of the late Quintin Javier Carrillo and Virginia Santos, and had resided in New Haven since 1958. Carmen's life was filled with love, faith, and devotion, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Carmen was a devout Catholic, whose faith guided her through life's ups and downs. She was a wonderful cook, known for her Puerto Rican fried chicken, red beans, bacalaitos, arroz con gandules, pernil, and a variety of other delicious treats that she lovingly prepared for her family and friends. She welcomed everyone into her home with warmth, and made them feel like a part of her family.  

Carmen is survived by her loving children; her daughter Anna López and husband Keith; her sons Victor López, Frank López and his wife Monique; and Michael López. She also leaves behind her daughter-in-law Sherry López, sister Isabel M. Carrillo, her brothers Genaro and Francisco Carrillo Santos, and her cherished grandchildren Martín López, III (Yolanda), Marlena Qiana López (Raymond), Alicia Smith (Teddy) and Victor López, Jr. (Amanda). Additionally she is survived by her great-grandchildren, loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and a large extended family of church members, neighbors and friends. She was predeceased by her son Martín López, Jr. and two brothers Victor Manuel Carrillo and Luís Carrillo.

Carmen's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, May 3rd from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. Her funeral cortege will depart the funeral home on Saturday, May 4th at 8:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. in St. Anthony Church, 70 Washington Ave., New Haven. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. washingtonmemorialfh.com
