Carmen Colón Obituary

Carmen L. Colón, 60 of Hamden died peacefully at her home on Sunday, May 10, 2020 with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Agustin Pina. Carmen was born in Cataño, Puerto Rico on December 7, 1959, a daughter of the late Gumercindo Colón and the late Pastora Rivera. Upon moving from Puerto Rico, Carmen had resided in New Haven for most of her life before moving to Meriden for five years, and Hamden for the past seven years. Carmen worked as a healthcare provider for several area homecare providers for a total of twenty years including Southern New England Homecare of Hamden, where she continued to work up until her illness. She was a well-known community activist in New Haven, and a longtime and devoted member of Iglesia Salvación y Vida Eterna, also of New Haven. In addition to her husband Agustin, Carmen is survived by three daughters, Ivellisse Cruz Colón and Xiamarys Reyes of Hamden, and Carmen Gloria Ortíz Colón and her husband Roberto DeJesus of New Haven, four sons, Jesus M. Colón of Trenton, NJ, Franklin Cruz Colón of New Britain and José Alberto Ortíz and José Pino of Hamden, three sisters, Norma, Carmen P. and Maria Colón of New Haven, two brothers, Gumercindo Colón of Sabana Seca, PR, and José Colón of West Haven, twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by a brother, William Colón. Carmen’s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, May 14th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven.
