Carmen Maria Bonilla

Carmen Maria Bonilla, 85, of New Haven, CT died peacefully at her home on Friday, June 2, 2023 with her loving family by her side. Carmen was born in Orocovis, Puerto Rico on December 27, 1937, a daughter of the late Donato Bonilla and the late Basilisa Aponte Ortíz, and had resided in New Haven for more than fifty years. She is survived by three daughters, Yolanda Colón of Aibonito, Puerto Rico and Nancy Lee Bonilla and Sonia Aponte of New Haven, two sons, José Orlando (Maribel Rodríguez) Colón and Gilberto (Carmen) Colón of New Haven, two sisters, Aida Ortíz of New Haven and Julia Colón of Bridgeport, CT, three brothers, Luís (Juanita) Ortíz and Ralph (Margarita) Aponte of New Haven and Anthony Ortíz of Bridgeport, fourteen grandchildren, T.J., Katia, Lauren, José Luís, Danny (Reina), Howard (Shea), Matthew, Carlos, Jacqueline, Briana, Veronica, Luís Omar, Michael and Bianca, six great-grandchildren, Noah, Silas, Cece, Coco, D.J. and Howie, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by a son, Jorge Luís Colón, two sisters, Maria Ortíz and Carmen Ortíz and four brothers, José "Toño" Bonilla, Cristino Bonilla, Ismael "Peter" Ortíz and Manuel Aponte. Carmen's family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, June 6th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 7th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com
