Bruce Richard Abate, 85, of Wallingford, CT and Port Charlotte, FL died peacefully on Monday, August 25, 2025 at Midstate Medical Center, Meriden with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of sixty years to Linda Theresa (Sposa) Abate. Bruce was born in New Haven, CT on August 30, 1939, a son of the late Frank and Loretta (Torello) Abate, and had resided in Wallingford for the past sixty years. Bruce had many business ventures and is best known as a co-owner of the Seafarer Restaurants. He made many friends during his years there, and the staff was like a family to him. He enjoyed spending time with his children and their families, and had a love for gardening where he enjoyed his backyard plants. He was a NY Yankees fan, and relished watching the games with his wife. In his early years Bruce had a love for fishing. He spent time in Branford Point, and later he enjoyed Back Bay fishing in Florida, his favorite spot being Lashley Point. He also proudly served his nation for two years with the US Army Reserve.
In addition to his wife Linda, Bruce is survived by his daughter Charise Terranova and her husband Michael of Westerly, RI, two sons, Bruce R. Abate and his wife Kimberly of Cheshire and Christopher Abate and his wife Shannon of Plainville, five grandchildren, Ryan Deming and his wife Holly, Kai Abate, Francesca and Michael Terranova and Chelsi Nuzzo, three great- grandchildren, Brooke and Ella Deming and Ashton Roberts, and his loving nieces and nephew. He was predeceased by his sister Marilyn Tufano.
Bruce’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, September 2nd from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be private.
