Antonia Díaz, 85 of New Haven died peacefully at Yale-New Haven Hospital on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 with her loving family by her side. Antonia was born in Dorado, Puerto Rico on October 31, 1934, a daughter of the late Antonio and Angela Díaz and had resided in New Haven for the past 36 years. Antonia was a cook in the 1980's and 90's at the former El Coquí Restaurant of New Haven. She is survived by six daughters, Carmen Vega, Gladys Hernández, Magda, Lucy and Jannette Baez, and Madelyn Díaz, four sons, Rafael, William and José (Nydia) Baez, and Jorge Rivera, all of New Haven, one sister, Mina Cajigas of Kissimmee, FL, one brother, Radame Díaz of California, thirty eight grandchildren, many, many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her long-time companion Florentino Baez, Sr. of New Haven. Antonia was predeceased by three sons, Florentino Báez, Jr., Adalberto Baez, and José Francisco Díaz, one sistrer, Luz Virginia Díaz, and one brother, Rubén Díaz. Antonia's family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, October 12th from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. www.washingtonmemorialfh.com
