Anthony Nicholas Esposito, 97, of Branford, CT, formerly of Village St., Northford, CT died peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 21, 2025. He was the beloved husband of the late, great lady, Barbara (Nuzzo) Esposito.
Anthony was born in New Haven, CT on May 20, 1928, a son of the late Antonio and Raffaela (DePonte) Esposito. He taught 5th and 6th grades in the New Haven Public Schools System at Woodward School for thirty four years, the same elementary school from which he graduated, retiring in 1992. Anthony graduated from New Haven State Teachers College, Summa Cum Laude, in 1958 with a B.S degree in Education, and in 1961 with an M.S. degree from Southern Connecticut State College.
He was a member of the East Shore Football and Sports Reunion Committees, being awarded the Golden Football Trophy in 1992, and being a playing member of the Annex B.C. and the Forbes A.C. football teams in the 1940’s and 1950’s. He was also a member of the St. Mary Maddelena and St. Trofimena Societies. Anthony served two years in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Tony was blessed with a great sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. He was also known as the “King of Memorbilia and Nostalgia”, especially knowledgeable about the Lone Ranger, Chicago Bears, and old movies; getting to meet and personally know many of the old movie stars, including President Ronald Regan and Buster Crabbe. Anthony is survived by his daughter, Regina Allegra of Fairfax, VA, two sons, Dino Esposito of Northford and Marc (Aurika) Esposito of Branford, five grandchildren, Michael A. (Alyssa) Esposito, Domenic (Natalie) Allegra, Vincent Allegra, Anthony P. Esposito and Laurynas (Julia) Bardziukas, and two great-grandchildren, Cecilia Esposito and Emilia Bardziukas. He was predeceased by his sister Teresa Mercugliano and his brother Frank Esposito.
Anthony’s family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, December 29th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. His funeral cortege will depart the funeral home on Tuesday, December 30th at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. in St. Monica Church (St. Augustine Parish), 1331 Middletown Ave., Northford.
