Anthony “Tony” William DeMatteo, 79, of North Haven, formerly of New Haven died peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 25, 2022 with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of fifty seven years to Barbara Cusano DeMatteo. Tony was born in New Haven on March 20, 1943, a son of the late William and Raffaela “Rae” DeLucia DeMatteo, and had resided in New Haven for most of his life before moving to North Haven three years ago. He was a plumber at the Hospital of St. Raphael for forty four years, retiring in 2008, and was a member of the Teamsters Local #443 of New Haven. Tony proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1962 to 1964. He loved sports, and was an avid New York Yankees fan. In addition to his wife Barbara, Tony is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Halovatch and her husband David of North Haven, a son, Anthony “TJ” DeMatteo and his wife Michelle of New Haven, two brothers, William “Billy” DeMatteo of North Haven and Thomas DeMatteo of Milford, and five beloved grandchildren, Rebecca, Juliana and Kaitlyn DeMatteo, and Mia and Gavin Halovatch. Tony’s family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, December 29th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. His funeral procession will leave from the funeral home on Friday, December 30th at 9:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in St. Therese Church (St. Elizabeth of the Trinity Parish), 555 Middletown Ave., North Haven.
