Anthony “Tim” DeMatteis, 84, of Hamden died peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 11, 2022 with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 62 years to Ann DeLeonardo DeMatteis. Tim was born in New Haven on July 12, 1938, a son of the late Liberto and Adeline Santillo DeMatteis and had resided in Hamden for the past sixty two years. He was a civil engineer for the State of CT, Dept. of Transportation for thirty four years, retiring in 1993. Tim spent six months in the CT National Guard and twenty four years in the U.S. Army Reserves. He coached Hamden Fathers’ Baseball and Basketball for many years. Tim loved spending time with his grandchildren, and especially enjoyed attending all of their sporting events. He was past Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus, Carmel Council of Hamden, and was instrumental with running their Tootsie Roll Drive. Tim was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns, NY Yankees, Boston Celtics and his beloved UConn Women’s Basketball Team. In addition to his wife Ann, Tim is survived by a daughter, Susan Ziaks and her husband Robert of North Haven, a son, Michael A. DeMatteis of Hamden, a brother, Frank (Cheryl) DeMatteis of Hamden, two loving grandchildren, Brendan and Ryan Ziaks, and several loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Tim’s family wishes to extend special thanks to his Visiting Angels Diana and Kate for the loving care given to him. The DeMatteis family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, December 16th from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 6:00 p.m., the Rev. Michael Santiago officiating. All are invited to go directly to the mausoleum at All Saints Cemetery on Saturday, December 17th at 11:00 a.m. for a committal service with Military Honors.
