Anna Maria Maldonado, 85, of Meriden, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. Born in Naguabo, Puerto Rico on May 29, 1939, Anna lived a life marked by resilience, deep faith, and unwavering love for her family and community.
One of Anna's proudest accomplishments was graduating from high school-a milestone she held close to her heart throughout her life. She went to work into her early fifties, embracing every opportunity with the spirit of a true jack of all trades, but more than any title or job, her greatest joy came from caring of others.
Anna's love language was food. She found purpose in cooking for anyone and everyone she could, believing that a full stomach was one of the surest ways to make someone feel loved. Whether it was a warm plate of home-cooked comfort or a spontaneous meal shared during a visit, her kitchen was always open and welcoming.
She was a passionate sports fan, finding joy in everything from baseball and basketball to wrestling and boxing. Whether she was watching a game on TV or cheering from the sidelines, her energy and enthusiasm were contagious.
To those of you who knew her, Anna was the glue that held everything together. She believed deeply in peace, unity, and the importance of staying connected as a family. She lived a life rooted in prayer, faith, and hard work-values she passed down in both words and actions.
Anna was the purest example of kindness, humility, and unconditional love. She gave selflessly, carried the burdens of others with grace, and comforted those around her with her words, her hugs, and her unshakable faith. Her presence made everything better, and her absence leaves a space no one else can fill.
She is survived by two daughters, Sonia Nerón and Sinai Nerón, two sons, John Nerón and Eliud Nerón, one sister, Blanca Iris Gómez of Ceiba, PR. She was a proud grandmother to twelve grandchildren, and great-grandmother to nineteen. She helped raise Joel Chapman, Jazzerae S. Morton, Laila N. Chapman, and Joel Jr. Chapman, shaping their lives with the same love and faith that defined her own.
Anna's family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, June 3rd from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Meriden. washingtonmemorialfh.com
