Anibal Torres, 77 of New Haven died peacefully on Friday, January 13, 2023 at Connecticut Hospice, Branford with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Lydia Escobar Torres. Anibal was born in Jayuya, Puerto Rico on September 26, 1945, a son of the late Ramiro Torres and the late Ramona Vázquez, and had resided in New Haven since 1983. He owned and operated Good Guys Flooring Co. of New Haven for the past thirty eight years. In addition to his wife, Anibal is survived by two daughters, Sandy Torres of Toa Baja, PR and Christy Alicea of Meriden, two sons, Christian (Lucy Lugo) Torres of Bridgeport and Jeffrey (Lavar Smith) Torres of Hamden, six sisters, Luz Torres-Jennings of Naples, FL, Lydia (Alan) Phillips of Wilson, NC, Nilda (Edward) Lewis of Perry, FL, Rosalia Torres of Dorado, PR, Miriam Torres of Del Ray Beach, FL, and Daisy Torres of Palm Beach, FL, three brothers, Guillermo (Sonia) Torres of New Haven, Ramos Torres of Toa Baja, PR and Nelson (Maria Francisca Adorno) Torres of Cataño, PR, his former wife Ruth Torres Rodríguez of Hamden, nine grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by two sons, Anibal Torres, Jr. and Steven Santos, and a brother, Ramiro Torres, Jr. Anibal’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, January 17th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 18th at 10:00 a.m., the Rev. Rosa Torres officiating.
