Angel Luís Rivera, 67, of New Haven, Connecticut died suddenly at his home on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. Angel was born in Jayuya, Puerto Rico on May 4, 1959, a son of the late José Rivera and the late Nilda Torres, and had resided in New Haven for most of his life.
Angel was a deeply caring, compassionate, and loving man whose life was defined by the kindness he showed to others every single day. He was the kind of person who made everyone around him feel welcomed, valued, and loved. His warm heart, gentle spirit, and selfless nature left a lasting impression on all who had the blessing of knowing him. To his family, he was a source of strength, comfort, and unconditional love. To his friends and community, he was someone they could always depend on no matter the circumstance.
Above all else, Angel was a devoted father, grandfather, and family man. His children were the greatest joy of his life, and he loved them with all of his heart. He took pride in being present for them through every stage of life, always offering guidance, encouragement, and unwavering support. He celebrated their successes, comforted them during difficult times, and made sure they always knew how deeply they were loved. The bond he shared with his children was one built on love, loyalty, laughter, and sacrifice, and it is a bond that will live on forever in their hearts.
Angel also cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren. Being around them brought him endless happiness and filled his life with laughter and purpose. Whether he was playing with them, sharing stories, making jokes, or simply sitting together enjoying each other’s company, those moments meant the world to him. His grandchildren brought out his playful side, and he treasured every memory he created with them. They will forever carry with them the love, warmth, and joy their grandfather gave so freely.
One of Angel’s favorite places to be was in the kitchen. Cooking was one of the many ways he showed love to those around him. Whether he was preparing breakfast in the morning or cooking dinner for his family, he enjoyed bringing everyone together through food and conversation. The kitchen was often filled with the comforting smells of his cooking, the sound of laughter, and the love that made every meal special. For Angel, cooking was never just about food — it was about caring for the people he loved most.
Angel also had a playful and affectionate side that his children will never forget. One of the little things that made him so special was how he loved to gently “bite” his children when saying hello, always making everyone laugh. It was one of his unique ways of showing affection and bringing joy to those around him. Those simple, funny moments became treasured memories that his family will hold close to their hearts forever.
The name given to him at birth suited him perfectly — Angel. Throughout his life, he truly embodied the meaning of his name. To so many people, he was an angel on earth: kind, patient, understanding, and full of love. He touched countless lives with his compassion and had an incredible ability to bring peace and comfort to those around him. His presence could brighten a room, and his words could calm even the heaviest hearts.
Angel will be remembered not only for the love he gave, but for the way he made people feel. He taught those around him the importance of family, loyalty, kindness, and being there for one another. His legacy is one of love, compassion, laughter, and unwavering devotion to the people he cared about most. Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of his loved ones, the memories he created and the love he shared will remain forever.
His family and friends will continue to honor his life by carrying forward the lessons he taught through his actions — to love deeply, help others freely, laugh often, and always be present for the people who matter most. Angel’s spirit will continue to live on in every life he touched, and he will forever be remembered with love, gratitude, admiration, and endless affection.
