Alonso Villegas, 74 of West Haven passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at Connecticut Hospice, Branford. Alonso was born in Medellin, Colombia. He graduated from Marco Fidel Suarez High School in Medellin, and continued on to receive his bachelor's degree from Boston College, and graduate degrees from Colorado State University, The University of Evansville, and Fordham University. He enjoyed all sports, and was a fan of college and professional Boston teams. Alonso is predeceased in death by his father Aristobulo Villegas, and his sister Luz Marina. Alonso was the beloved husband of Marta Villegas. He is also survived by his two daughters, Sister Luisa Fernanda, ASCJ of Hamden, CT, Maria (Pablo) Florin of San Marcos, CA,, granddaughters Sofia and Cecilia Florin of San Marcos, his mother Marta Arias, and siblings Rocio, Alvaro, Elkin and Aristobulo, all of Medellin. Alonso worked as a college teacher at National University of Medellin Colombia, and Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra in the Dominican Republic for a total of eighteen years. He was a Pastoral Associate at St. Peter and Sacred Heart Churches in New Haven for another eighteen years, and Spiritual Services Assistant at Connecticut Mental Health Center for thirteen years. Funeral services and interment for Alonso will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Spiritual Round Table at Connecticut Mental Health Center, 34 Park St., New Haven, CT 06519, or Retirement Fund of the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 295 Benham St., Hamden, CT 06514.
