Alicia Irizarry, 77, of New Haven, formerly of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico died peacefully at her home on Saturday, April 30, 2022 with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Ismael Sanabria. Alicia was born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico on March 23, 1945, a daughter of the late Carmelo Irizarry and the late Edelfina Sanabria. She had resided in Mayaguez for most of her life before moving to New Haven six years ago. Alicia was a member of "Una Iglesia Para la Ciudad" of New Haven. She is also survived by two daughters, Sujeily Matias and her husband Dan Robles, and Suleika Matias of New Haven, two sisters, Zulma Irizarry of Bridgeport and Monsa Irizarry of San Juan, Puerto Rico, one brother, Carmelo Irizarry of Mayaguez, many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her sister Carmen Irizarry. Alicia's family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, May 5th from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Una Iglesia Para la Ciudad, 99 East Pearl St., New Haven. A funeral service will take place at the church at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be private.
