Alejandro "Alex" Torres, 82 of New Haven died suddenly at the Advanced Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation on Monday, September 14, 2020. Alex was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico on March 3, 1938, a son of the late Bartólo Vazquez and the late Maria Torres. He resided in Chicago for twenty years before moving to New Haven forty years ago. Alex was a machine operator for several manufacturing firms both in Chicago and the New Haven area retiring several years ago due to a disability. He is survived by two daughters, Lourdes (George) Hohl of White Hall, PA, and Lisandra Torres of New Haven, four sons, Edwin Vazquez, Sr. and Alexander (Patricia) Vazquez of Allentown, PA, Michael Torres of Philadelphia, PA and Omar Torres of New Haven, three sisters, Carmen (Ismael Irizzary) de León of Utuado, Puerto Rico, Irene (George) Martínez of West Haven and Milagros de León of New Haven, six brothers, Rafael (Mary) Roman, Luís de León, Jovino (Theresa) de León, and Ramón (Vicky Pabón) de León of New Haven, Carmelo de León of Tampa, FL, and Miguel (Tammy) Roman of Meriden, fifteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Anibal de León. Alex's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, September 18th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. His funeral procession will leave from the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. for a graveside service which will take place at 1:00 p.m. in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven, the Rev.
