Aleja Melendez Rodriguez, 75 of Hamden formerly of New Haven died peacefully on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at Regal Care Health Center, West Haven. Aleja was born in Cayey, Puerto Rico on February 26, 1945, a daughter of the late Juan Melendez and the late Epifania Rodriguez, and had resided in New Haven for more than fifty years before moving to Hamden. She is survived by two daughters, Maria del Carmen Altreche and her husband Daniel Altreche of Riverside, CA and Dalia Enid Gonzalez and her husband José Antonio Gonzalez of New Haven, a son, Nelson Montes, Jr. of Ansonia, three sisters, Maria Luisa Melendez and Antonia Melendez of New Haven and Rafaela Melendez of Cayey, three brothers, Edelmiro, Juan and José Melendez, all of Cayey, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by two sisters, Angelica and Maria Cristina Melendez, and two brothers, Julio Cesar and Rafaelo Melendez. Aleja’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, April 29th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven.
