Aida Torres, 73, of West Haven, CT, formerly of New Haven, CT died peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Yale-New Haven Hospital, York St. Campus with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Vincent Torres. Aida was born in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, a daughter of the late Patricio Martínez and the late Pura Rosario. She had resided in New Haven for most of her life before moving to West Haven twenty years ago. Aida was a Pre-K teacher in the New Haven School System for thirty six years, retiring in 2014, and a long-time member of Star of Jacob Christian Church of New Haven. She will be remembered for the simple joys that brought light to her days-coloring, word searches, cooking, shopping, and above all, spending time with her family. She cherished family gatherings and found deep fulfillment in participating in church events and activities. A lover of butterflies and all things beautiful, she carried a gentle spirit and a vibrant presence wherever she went. She was a kind, caring and courageous woman-a beautiful soul who embodied strength and compassion. Known as our Wonder Woman, she was empowering, honest, strong-willed, and a natural leader. She was a role model to many, admired for her loyalty, intelligence, and unwavering love. Her understanding heart and loving nature will forever live on in the lives she touched.
In addition to her husband Vincent, Aida is survived by her daughter Vanessa Torres of West Haven, two sons, Vincent (Jessica) Torres, III of Meriden and Joseph (Evelyn) Torres of New Haven, one sister, Irma (David) Alicea of the Bronx, NY, one brother, José "Che" (Manon) Martínez of Vega Baja, eight grandchildren, VJ, Joseph, Jr., Victor, Janelly, Leilani, Joselle, Jolani and Juliana, and an abundance of nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins and friends.
