Claire Maloney Obituary

Claire H. Blake Maloney, 101 of East Windsor, formerly of Helstrom Rd., East Haven, and Edgemere Rd., Hamden died peacefully on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at the Fresh River Healthcare Center in East Windsor. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald M. Maloney. Claire was born in New Haven on January 12, 1915, a daughter of the late Frederick and Annie Blail Blake, and had resided in East Haven and Hamden for most of her life. Claire was independent, glamourous, flamboyant, fun-loving, and liked a good joke. She was a creative cake decorator, and was known for her doll cakes that she would most likely be frosting on the way to an event. She was also an avid sewer, and a great dancer and tap dancer, even at 100 years of age! Claire lived life to the fullest. She was a long time parishoner of St. Rita Church, Hamden, and a volunteer for many causes, as the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and the American Kidney Fund. She took great care of her husband Don when he was ill with cancer. Claire is survived by her son Kevin B. Maloney and his wife Bonnie of West Suffield, one sister, Ruth Shea of Hamden, four grandchildren, Carol Lynn Maloney and David Maloney of Granby, Jennifer McLees of Hamden, and Amanda Bethune of Middletown, and a great granddaughter, Ava. She was predeceased by six sisters, Edna Mossberg, Adeline Sandborn, Myrtle Wright, Florence Gartland, Irene Bree and Valerie Blake, and two brothers, Earl and Roy Blake.
