Anibal DeLeon, 79 of New Haven died peacefully on Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Yale-New Haven Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Antonia Serrano DeLeon. Anibal was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico on October 13, 1940, a son of the late Eusebio DeLeon and the late Maria Torres. He had resided in New Haven since 1960. Anibal worked as a cook a several area restaurants including Peppino's of Westville. He was also a custodian in the Wallingford School System for several years, and also worked in various area factories, retiring in 1995. In addition to his wife, Anibal is survived by four sons, José Anibal DeLeon of Vermont, Robert DeLeon of Middletown, and Ricardo and Juan (Angelica) Rosa of New Haven, three sisters, Carmen (Ismael Irizzary) Deleon of Utuado, PR, Irene (George) Martinez of West Haven and Milagros DeLeon of New Haven, seven brothers,Rafael (Mary) DeLeon, Alejandro Torres, Luís DeLeon, Jovino (Theresa) Deleon and Ramón (Vicky) DeLeon of New Haven, Carmelo DeLeon of Tampa, FL, and Miguel (Tammy) Roman of Meriden, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Anibal's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, November 15th from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Iglesia Pentecostal Jehova, Inc., 577 Howard Ave., New Haven. A funeral service will take place at the church beginning at 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will take place at the church Saturday, November 16th at 9:00 a.m. followed by burial in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven.
